Runescape: An overview of the most effective skills for OSRS Money Making

An entire list of the top money making skills in Old School Runescape - with extensive guides.

The majority of the activities performed within the Old School Runescape is associated with a Skill. There are a total of 23 Skills in the OSRS. Each one starts at 1 and can be progressively increased until 99 (with the notable exception of Hitpoints which start in the 10th level). The power level for the character closely reflects the degree of his abilities that is the case for the grinding, gold-making and hunting options (overall the higher level of skills opens doors to lots of the game's content). Also, Skills are the name of the game within the OSRS and should not be ignored particularly if you wish to make a good Gold income.

The process of leveling these skills up fast can be Gold consuming (and leveling them up with no money input requires much work and energy) But many of them are profitable right from the beginning. Some Skills provide amazing RS Gold Farming possibilities when achieved enough levels, and they can be used to make a lot of money quickly. This Guide will go over the most skilled moneymakers within the OSRS. The Guide will be organized as an overview, and additional detailed guides on every one of the highlighted Skills will follow closely (they should be included to the relevant sections when they are available).

Mining Skill lets you acquire metal Ores along with Gems and Minerals that are extracted from the rocks. Ores can then be turned into bars with Smithing Skill Smithing Skill or sold for profit. Mining is among the most sought-after Skills in the Game, and with good reason. Once it is high enough, it can be used to produce a significant amount of Gold.

The most profitable, yet equally demanding Skill-based Ore for mining is Runite Ore. The mining of Runite requires at least 85 skills in Mining, and a Dragon Pickaxe, for maximising the return. This Ore is in high demand and can be purchased at a very good price at the Grand Exchange (prices are over 11000 Gold a lot of the time). The high price attracts lots of Players which is why the competition with regard to Runite Farming is fierce. This results in quick reduction of Runite Rocks, so World Switching is necessary for efficient farming. Runite Rocks can be mined at any of the following areas:

Lava Maze Rune Mine (Free-to-Play, 2 Runite Rocks available)

Frozen Waste Plateau (Members only, 3 Runite Rocks available)

Heroes Guild Mine (Members only two Runite Rocks are available)

South Mor Ul Rek Mine (Members only, 3 Runite Rocks accessible)

Myths' Guild Mining Guild, Fossil Island (Members only Two Runite Rocks available)

Mining Runite Ore can net around 700k-1kk/hour. Profits will be contingent on the Grand Exchange prices, your ability to find fresh Runite Ores in a short time (teleports/stamina potions and so on. are recommended) as well as the current competition (farming in the hours outside Server's prime times is typically most profitable because there are more players working in the late at night or in the early hours of the early morning).

Runecrafting Skill lets you make your own Runes that are needed for Magic Spells. Leveling up this skill takes a lot of time and effort because experience rewards from crafting are rather low and a lot of clicking/banking/running is involved. However, despite this, it is certainly worth leveling up. It is because of the enormous profits which are earned from the creation of high-level Runes.

Upgrading the skill of Runecrafting enough will enable you to craft two high-level runes from one Essence which will double your profits. Crafting High-Level runes is not so easy, however and requires some preparation (mainly, you will need access to the Abyss and a very high Mining Skill, Pickaxes, a large Hitpoints pooland Food). The most lucrative Runes to create are:

Nature Runes (Requirements: 44 Runecrafting, 91 Runecrafting for doubles).

Law Runes (Requirements: 54 Runecrafting, 95 Runecrafting in doubles).

Death Runes (Requirements: 65 Runecrafting, 99 Runecrafting for doubles). They're the most lucrative but also the most difficult to create, since they need you to have the highest level of the Runecrafting ability.

Your earnings will mostly depend on your Runecrafting skills, your ability to move quickly, as well as what you can get at the moment in Grand Exchange prices. Making Deathrunes with The 99 Runecrafting Skill can net you about 12.5kk/hour. Creating Nature Runes with the 91 Runecrafting Skill can net you up to 1kk/hour, and making the Law Runes in the 95 runecrafting Skill is expected to yield about 1 kilo/hour. Making these runes with skill levels that are lower than those mentioned above will give you approximately half of the Gold mentioned above per hour (which is still high if you satisfy all other prerequisites).

Thieving is a skill for members only that lets you take Items and Coins from Chests, Market Stalls and NPC's through picking them up. It also allows you to remove traps, and unlock locked doors. This skill can be very profitable when you reach high levels, as your rate of success at stealing rises with your Thieving Skill.

Pickpocketing Master Farmers is the most important source of gold from the Thieving Skill. It will require you to be at or near 38 Thieving (this isn't worthwhile at such a a low level, however) however, a skill of at least 50 plus fully Rogue Equipment is recommended for adequate profits. The moneymaking potential of pickpocketing Master Farmers caps out at the level of 94 Thieving since at this point you can no longer fail your pickpocket attempts. Master Farmers can be found in the following locations:

Varrock South of the Stone Circle

Farming Guild

Hosidius house south-east of Zeah's Town Square (Zeah)

The amount of gold which can be made of pickingpocketing Master Farmers greatly depends on player's Thieving Skill and his Equipment (full equipment that is rogue are highly recommended). It is recommended to consider this method of making money with a Skill only if your character has the minimum of 50 Thieving, at that point it will earn approximately 300k gold per hour. When you've got a fully optimized character, and at 94+ Thieving level it is possible to make more than 1 kilo Gold per hour using this method.

Smithing is a process that allows you to process raw Ore into bars and Bars are transformed into a range of metal products. Bars are melted by special furnaces, and then the Items can be Crafted at specific Anvils.

The best income that you can earn with Smithing is from smelting high-quality Ores, like the Runite Ore, at the Blast Furnace. The Blast Furnace itself is a minigame situated in Kaldagrim which is only available to members. The Blast Furnace only requires 50% of the Coal which is normally required when Smelting, which means that it offers a great Smelting efficiency. Blast Furnaces are available in Worlds 387 352, 382 as well as 358 (official Blast Furnace Worlds). They are situated in Kaldagrim (Quest: The Giant Dwarf must be started for access).

The process of melting Runite ore into bars requires 85 Smithing. A high level of agility is recommended. Items such as Weight-Reducing Clothes, Energy as well as Stamina Potions, Ice Gloves and a Coal Bag are essential for this skillful moneymaking method. Some initial Gold investment is needed in the event that you do not plan it or can't cultivate Runite Ore on your own and you want to buy it through the Grand Exchange instead.

Other Bars that are profitable that can be melted include Steel Bars (Requirements: 30 Smithing) Mithril Bars (Requirements 50 Smithing), and Adamantite Bars (Requirements: 70 Smithing).

The amount of Gold that is produced by the Blast Furnace largely depends in the current Grand Exchange Margins (the higher the difference in price among Ore as well as Bars then the better, of course). Smelting Mithril should net you about 400k Gold/Hour, and Smelting Runite could provide earnings of 1kk Gold/Hour. Smithing Adamantite Bars at the Blast Furnace is estimated to yield 630k Gold/Hour while Smithing Steel Bars can yield the same profits as Smithing Adamantite (about 600k Gold/Hour).

Hunter is a skill that lets you catch different creatures and Animals that live in the world of the Old School Runescape. It has a Member-only restriction and was added in the year 2006, it is the newest Skill in the Game. The more advanced your Hunter Skill, the greater number of traps you are able to lay in addition to the experience and experience level you can gain from catching your target.

Thanks to special Hunting Equipment available at Hunter Stores, you can find specific animals and several expensive, rare and sought-after products. A few of the more lucrative Creatures for Hinting includes one called the Black Chinchompa (Black Chin for short). Hunting them requires an 80+ Hunter (for 100% chance of being caught; with 73 percentage Hunter chance of catching, that's only 78 percent), Box Traps, equipment and weapons and some protective equipment along with the Eagles' Peak Quest. These creatures can be found within The Wilderness (which means that you have the option of laying an additional trap) located south-east and south-east of Lava Maze. Set traps near Chin's respawning locations can increase your the effectiveness of your hunt (to achieve this, you must kill one, wait for Respawn, and then put your traps in the newly discovered Spawn Point).

The other profitable Creature to Hunt is Impling. Hunting them requires a high Hunter Skill (~83 is strongly suggested) and an excellent level of thieving (60or more is sufficient). Additionally, you'll need Butterfly Net (unless you outskill these by at least 10,), Dramen or Lunar Staff and some Impling Jars. Items such as Weight-reducing Clothes, Stamina Potions, and a few Runes are suggested to increase the effectiveness of hunting. Implings are available in Puro-Puro.

The amount of gold you earn from Hunting Implings will depend on your luck, at least to some extent. On a good day you could make around 800h Gold/Hour. If you're not fortunate the number could be less than 600k Gold/Hour. In the hunt, Black Chins should net you approximately 700k Gold/Hour when you've set it up properly (laying traps on the correct places will take some time so the profits from the initial hour of hunting will most likely be less).

Note: These numbers can be affected by PKers roaming these Hunting Spots. Be prepared for such encounters, or try to Hunt outside of Server's prime hours to maximize your Gold/Hour gains.

This skill lets you catch Fish from different locations across the World. Higher Fishing Skill provides the possibility of catching diverse types of Fish and boosts your fishing efficiency. A lot of Fish are used as ingredients in Cooking recipes. This makes them expensive and looked for by people who want to enhance their Cooking skill.

In order to catch certain fish, you'll need to possess specialized equipment which can be bought from specific fishing Shops. The most specialized equipment for fishing is comprised of Fishing Rods (used for mid-level fishing levels) Baits (Needed to attract fish) Nets (Usable only in Seas exclusively), Harpoons (Usable in Seas only), as well as Lobster Cages (Usable within Seas to catch Lobsters).

Fishing offers a middle-tier Gold income, but it's an option to consider if want something relaxing to do and you're not forced to do anything more challenging and/or engaging. One of the top profitable types of fish you can catch are:

Minnows (Members-only) - They require 82 Fishing as well as the Fishing Contest Quest, an Angler's outfit, and a Small Fishing Net. Minnows can also be caught at the Kylie Minnow's platform for fishing in the Fishing Guild (you have to be wearing a complete Angler's Outfit before you can access this platform). Be aware that there exist AFK protection mechanisms that are in place to stop Players from catching them when AFKing (Minnows move around in a predetermined manner, forcing you to follow them as they move, and the Flying Fish, which eats Minnows out of your inventory if you do not move away they will appear from time to time).

Anglerfish - These require an 82+ fishing experience A Fishing Rod as well as a handful of Sandworms (can be purchased from the Tynan's Fishing Supplies store), and a 100 percent Piscarilius Favour (grinding this takes several hours that discourages a lot of players). Anglerfish are available within areas of Port Piscarilius (main docks and beaches). It is recommended to get the Rada's Blessing, as it gives you an 8% chance to catch 2 Fish simultaneously, effectively increasing your earnings by 8percent.

Your profits from Fishing will depend on the Current Grand Exchange prices, however, you can typically expect ~150k Gold/Hour from Catching Anglerfish and approximately 225k Gold/Hour when Catching Minnows. As you can see, these methods do not provide great profits but they are advantageous because they do not being attention-intensive which enables AFK as well as semi-AFK techniques.

Cooking Skill allows you to make raw ingredients into edible Food items that can restore Hitpoints when eaten. Based on the Cooking Skill you have it is possible to burn the Food you prepare This is clear as waste of some of the raw ingredients. Food is cooked on Fires as well as Ranges. Ranges generally are better as they have a lower chances of burning your Food, furthermore, Ranges located inside the Hosidius Kitchen as well as in the Lumbridge Castle Burn Food less often than normal ranges.

Note: Cooking may be combined with Fishing to increase the Gold yield from both skills.

One of the most profitable Foods for Cooking is Raw Karambwan. Cooking it requires 30 Cooking (90+ is recommended for a 100% Success Rate) and an Cooking Cape or Gauntlets, Access for the Cook's Guild (recommended, you require Varrock Armour 3 or 99 Cooking for entry and gain access to the Range which is located in close proximity of a Bank Booth) and the Tai Bwo Wannai Trio Quest. It is a favorite for PKs and other PVPers who use it for combo eating, so the market for it is always there.

Based on the current Grand Exchange margin between the Raw and the cooked Karambwans, you will be able to earn around 200k Gol/Hour.

Farming Skill allows you to cultivate different Plants by consuming their seeds. You can later harvest those Plants or Items that they Grow (like Fruits, for example). The Growable Plants include Fruit Trees and vegetables, hops and herbs, to additional exotic Mushrooms and Wood-bearing Trees.

The biggest advantage of Farming over the other Gold making Skills is the nature of the plant that will keep growing even after you quit the game. This means you could generate additional Gold using a minimal daily time input. It is rather effortless because of this, since a lot of learning can be achieved with the smallest amount of time.

Most profitable Plants to Farm is the Snapdragon. For farming, you need 62 Farming, 61 Magic (For Teleport to Trollheim), Farming Equipment, and the initial Gold investment of the 9 Snapdragon Seeds and 9 Ultracompost (Transportation items and spells are suggested to reduce travel time between patches). Each Farming Run takes just a few minutes. Locations of the best Patches and ways to get there quickly are the following:

Patch north-east of Ardougne (Use Ardougne Teleport/Ardougne Cloak Teleport)

Port Phasmatys, west of the Undead Farm (Emptying the Ectophial will take you to the Port)

Patch south of Falador (Use the Explorer's Ring's Cabbage port option)

Patch north of Catherby (Use Catherby Teleport)

Hosidius Patch (Use the Tithe Farm minigame to teleport)

The profits you earn made from Farming Snapdragons will depend largely on your Teleportation options and Grand Exchange margins. If you have quick access to all the available Patches that are available, you should be able to generate around 160k Gold/Farming Run that should take about 10 minutes (Run is able to be repeated after an interval of 90 mins).

Herblore is a skill that allows you to create various Herb-based tinctures, and is only available to members. You'll need to complete the Druidic Ritual quest to use the Herblore Skill.

There are a myriad of methods of profiting on the Herblore, and every single one of them requires regular Grand Exchange margin checks because of the fluctuating prices. Monitoring the margins for every Herb and every Potion can be time-consuming, as there is no guarantee that you will get a profit This method is only suggested as a backup Gold producing activity. It will especially suit Players who are fond of flipping around on Grand Exchange, as they know a lot about GE prices, margins and the general economy of the game.

Note: At the moment of the writing of this Guide, Weapon Poison (++) as well as an Anti-Venom+ are the most profitable Potions to create however this may changebased on the demand-supply relationship between Potions and raw Ingredients.

This is an overall example of profitability make sure to look over for Grand Exchange margins before investing your money in any of the listed Potions.

Making Anti-Venom+ using clean Herbs (Requires at least 94 Herblore) will give approximately 2700 Gold/Potion.

The process of creating Weapon Poison (++) made from clean Herbs (Requires the 82 Herblore) will reward you with around 3900 gold per potion.

Woodcutting is a Gathering Skill which allows you to cut Trees in order to obtain Logs. These Logs are used later for Construction, Firemaking, as well as Fletching Skills and that means that there is a constant need for Logs. This skill is recommended for those who are just starting out as it requires nearly zero initial investment, and can yield some nice early game profits (all you require is an Axe and some gaming time). It is possible to perform it when AFK therefore it's also quite convenient.

The most profitable Trees to cut are Magic Trees, which are located at the Woodcutting Guild (membership is required to be able to access them). The Woodcutting skill of at least 75 (over 90 is suggested to increase efficiency) along with the Dragon Axe, and at the minimum of 75 percentage Hosidius Favour is required to access these trees. Trees belonging to the Woodcutting Guild are in very close proximity to the Bank which reduces travel time for farmers.

The earnings you make through Chopping Magic Trees is going to depend on the current Grand Exchange prices, but it is typical to earn about 120k Gold per Hour. This figure is quite low as compared to the other ones in this list, but be aware that woodcutting is friendly to AFK, and is possible using very little input from players.

Making gold with the help of your OSRS Skills could be an ideal alternative to other, slower and challenging methods, because numerous Skilling Moneymakers are completed while Semi-AFKing. It is incredibly convenient. The methods described in this guide are just a small portion of the many methods of creating Gold within the Old School Runescape, be certain to go through our other guides to this topic if want to discover much more!
